Pematangsiantar: An Adipura City?

Pematangsiantar is my hometown. Does anybody know where is it? Well, it’s located in North Sumatra. Pematangsiantar, also known as Siantar, is not a big city. But, it is the second biggest city in North Sumatra after the capital of the province, Medan. That’s about 3 hours away by car from Medan. The distance is 180 kilometres away from Medan. The entrance of the city is signed by a “Welcome to Pematangsiantar, an Adipura City” board.

Some years ago, Siantar is a very nice city. It has a clean environment, the air was fresh, and the trees were grown along the street. Besides, the weather was also great. There's no doubt that this city ever gained the Adipura Award in 1993, 2006 and 2007. Thus, this city attracted many tourisms.

However, there’s a bit peculiar that Pematangsiantar could win the award in the last two years. In 2000, there was a market burnt. It’s a trading center in Siantar, located between two main streets.Emergency posts were built on the street to make the economic of the city stable. The trees along the street were cut down. The repairment made the environment worse. Without any trees at the street and the depraving repairment, the air become polluted. It’s not chilly anymore. Due to the increasing amount of the vehicle, the weather became hotter and hotter. Even after the repairment was finished, the trees were not replanted. They were replaced by the small plants. However it didn’t help at all. The plants decreased. Besides, the rubbish increased again and again. In 2006, Siantar became an uncomfortable city. The weather was hot. It should be inquired whether Siantar could win the Adipura award again in 2006 and 2007. Where is my beloved Pematangsiantar?
