Television: the cursed “magic box”?

As the time passes by, technology has continually grown at exponential level as a result of mankind’s thirst of improvement. However, those sparks of glorious achievements have often blinded us from its dark-side effects. Television would be one of the best examples to describe this issue. As a vital source of information, television has an important role in distributing latest news about the world into your living room. It also helps releasing boredom from our brain with its various kinds of entertainment. Nevertheless, the addictive effect of television has created an imbalance between our needs of leisure and our needs of social interactions.

A television has made the bonds between family members deteriorates. This inevitable condition occurs due to a commonly found chain reactions. A child who just got home from school will automatically turn on the television and watch his favorite movie because he wants a relaxation from the boring school’s matter and needs something to replenish their spirit. Yet after the movie is over, he won’t get up from his seat . Instead, he will search another movie that he doesn’t plan to watch it in the first place. This habit will create a distance within the family since communication was rarely done. This situation seems negligible considering the fact that the family members meet each other everyday. But family isn’t just about the blood bond that connect us or the place that we lived in together. Family is mostly about the love that we share to each other. Obviously, we can’t share that love if we always have our eyes glued to the television. And if this issue doesn’t get a wise solution, the vanished bond between family members will be an unavoidable impact.

Television delivers all of the reality that is happening in all over the globe, including the bad ones. Hedonism, individualism, and materialism, are infamous behavior that is widely known as the ailments of healthy society. Nevertheless, television’s programmes lately exposed the ailments as manners that make a person acceptable in a society. The main effect of this misconduct will influence mainly to the young ones. Children are always wanted to be in the limelight. They will do everything it takes to make them always in that spot, including the bad ones which they’ve learned from the television. If they don’t get a proper explanation of what they have watch from television, they will take it as the suitable behavior to conduct in their life. Furthermore, the worse behavior they’ve learned from television, the worse habit they will perform in society, and the worse character of man they will have in their lifetime.

We all will agree that watching television for recreation is not the problem, considering the fact that we need to take a break from life’s boredom. But the problem lies in its addictive effect, where the television makes us believe that it always has another exciting programme to show. This crippling effect would ruin not only ourselves but also the people around us, especially our own family. For example, watching television while having a family dinner means that we waste our precious time to bond with our family. The other effect isn’t less destructive than the first. It will create an insensitive community which will lead to mistrust and dishonesty among the people. Furthermore, we even could end up in separation of the nation. That’s the reason why a good cooperation between government, community, and the television station should be performed in order to reduce the risk of enjoying entertainment from the magic box.
